An awesome group of people who are building a home-made, DIY, sub-orbital space programme in Denmark.

Does our Universe have a purpose? Perhaps, perhaps not.
Most physicists tend not to be all that philosophical about the meaning of life…
A nice explanation, anyhow, narrated by the (as always) awesome Neil deGrasse Tyson. :)

“All things began in order, so shall they end, and so shall they begin again;”
The universe itself, is a construct. It would not exist without our species, just as we would not, could not, exist without it.
Ouroboros. A Möbius strip. Imagine, if you will it so…

Everything is created. An inherent, iterative, system of fabrication, for reality itself.
And the nothing, the crushing dark, at the end of time itself, is destroyed, and born anew. Wonderful, cruel, beautiful, humanity, alone in a sea of stars.
Love itself is a construct, in fact THE construct, one which binds us all. It is that material that builds identities, the all-powerful mind, a chisel, a paintbrush, for shaping the canvas of all of time and space with…

“Just Another Day Closer to Death”
WAKE UP! WAKE UP!, because it’s a bright sunny day! :-)
Gotta face the world for your sins because it’s time to pay
It’s just another day closer to your eventual death,
Grudgingly trudging ever forward to your final last breath. So Good Morning Mr. Lamp, my anthropomorphic friend!
I know you’ll give me light until the very end
Good morning Admiral Pillows, you hold my weary head
I hope you’ll have that job until the day I am dead
Ahoy! Lt. Windows, Baron von Blankie, even Capt. Colonel Clock
That my only friends are possessions shouldn’t come as a shock.Because in geological terms, humans are but a blip
So what does it matter if you let relationships slip?
It’s all meaningless distractions to occupy our time
Until we’re dead in the ground, rotting away into slime. But ‘ya gotta fill the void with sumthin’! Might as well just live.
So go wake up and have a life, ‘cuz it’s all ‘ya got to give.Originally Posted 5/22/2012
This Universe moves fast. Almost faster than you can imagine, with only your mind’s eye to guide you. Time, and light, inextricably linked, shaping all of existence.
There is no future. There is no past. Imagine. Do you see? Time is simultaneous, an intricately structured prism that humans insist on viewing one edge at a time, when the whole design is visible in every facet.
Blink, and you’ll miss it.

A short history of the future:
Development of the first ALD was fraught with problems, although at least, at first, they were mostly political. Arguments over the petty issues, fighting over which nations would contribute to the project.
Finally, however, an agreement was reached, between Europe and China.
America did not participate. They had increasing problems with fundamentalist Christians who held conservative ideals.
The ESA Promethean II spun up it’s drive coils, in preparation for the jump.
The hull, creaked and groaned, almost as if it was anxious to move.
They were in a parking orbit, at the moon’s north pole. To do what they were attempting would have been far too dangerous in Earth orbit, as the drive had to sink a tremendous amount of heat out into it’s surroundings.
The crew were on full alert, and understandably nervous. Simulations had proven the drives safety, that it could work. But they were only 98% certain.
That 2% meant imploding, and turning the whole ship into a twisted debris field, with no time for the crew to escape.
[They deployed Observation probes to a safe distance. The world’s 3.4 billion viewers were glued to their holo-screens. Drive engages. Ship vanishes without trace.]
FTL drive research funding is cut, FTL drives made illegal to own or operate.
Humanity slides back into war and petty bickering.
To be continued…

“The Long Journey Across the Galaxy”
After hearing the hiss and click of the last hibernation tank as it pressurizes and seals in his shipmates, Harrison Daniels quietly lifts his lid and makes sure everyone is frozen in their pod…
In 31 years when they finally reach the asteroid belt they’ll wake up, but for now the coast is clear. He has the room to himself.
As there’s no oxygen being pumped into this part of the ship (since everyone is meant to be in their tank, frozen for the journey), Harrison quickly grabs a spare oxygen mask and climbs up onto the round windowsill overlooking the galaxy.
He’s not sure why he snuck out of his tank, but as he watches the distant field of stars stream by as the mining ship rockets along at lightspeed, he’s glad he did.
His mind struggles to comprehend the enormous scope of the galaxy stretched out before him, and while he feels a deep connection to it all, it also leaves him feeling totally insignificant. His problems, his worries… they couldn’t matter.
Thinking back, Harrison realizes he’s never actually been alone his entire life. Family, spouses, friends… and in 31 years when they reach the belt, he’ll never have a moment to himself. All he has is this, right now.
He tells himself that he has to do this again, somehow… for longer than just a few hours. It’s nice.
But, he has responsibilities still, and everyone will notice if they arrive at the asteroid belt and he’s the only one who has aged the 31 years (not to mention, he has no food— the hibernation tank is meant to nourish him as as they travel).
Taking one last long look out the window, Harrison gets back into his tank, and goes to sleep.
